As I was having my coffee and going thru my blog reader I came along the post, Not Skinny Jeans on the blog, Because I'm Addicted. Yesterday's post really got me thinking about denim so when I saw the picture below I felt the need to start a discussion. Denim is one of the basic building blocks of a wardrobe. As most women that love fashion, I have an embarrasingly unnecessary amount of jeans. In my defense we can all agree you need a variety of washes and styles. But how many is enough? Whats your personal preference? And how does body type play into your choice to follow denim trends?
And now we have new debates being formed. With the "comeback" of wide legged jeans designers are playing with porportions all over again. My latest favorite is #1 pictured at the top, Emersonmade's Original no stretch, dark wash, high waisted, widelegged, Bluebells. They are denim perfection to me. #2 is an example of, in my opinion, porportion that is off. Yes they are on trend. But can we say these jeans do anything at all for these models? What do you think about them?
And here we come to the Skinny Jean. I hope they stay in fashion because I love skinny jeans with heels or ballet flats. Cuffed, scrunched, or tucked into boots for that matter. I'll admit that while I adore Emersonmade's Bluebells for the 70s vibe and the ability to rock my highest platform wedges, on a regular everyday basis your going to find me in skinnies. I have skinny legs, a small butt, and the genetic failure of having any weight go to my tummy. With skinny jeans and the right shirt it balances me out. Try picturing the models in pic #2 wearing exactly what their wearing except switching their jeans to skinny. The slouchy laid back tops would than look more polished and flattering, in my opinion.
So here's your chance. I want to hear what you think about these questions. Answer any or all.
- How many jeans should a great wardrobe have?
- Whats your personal preference? Describe your favorite jeans.
- Are your favorite jeans your everyday jeans?
- How does body type play into your choice to follow denim trends?
- How widelegged is too big, boot cut or extra wide bell?
- And here's the biggie, if you had to pick one...Widelegged or Skinny?

my favorite jean has been and always will be a medium wash flare. I love Gaps long and lean flares! I never liked the way I looked in skinny jeans. Maybe they were always too reminicent of the jeans I had as a child. I love the wideleg look of the Emersonmade. The others aren't widelegged those are what the goth kids used to wear.
Widelegged or Skinny? make mine wide.
<3
Woolbridge- I'm with ya on Gaps long and lean flares, good selection for flares. And yeah the goth kids and the ravers look of basically not caring how it looked on their body, using their jeans as a statement.
Geri Hirsch of Because I'm Addicted- I'm glad you <3!
My personal preference is for skinny jeans. I'm short, so I never feel that wide-leg jeans look correct on me, unless they're shortened. I wear my skinny jeans everyday, and when I'm not wearing those, I put on comfy bootcut.
Jess- Yeah I feel the skinny jeans make my legs look longer.
Hmmm...how many pair of jeans make a GREAT wardrobe...well, I would have say SEVERAL...because I just love jeans! I now have a pair of skinny jeggings and I love, love them! That's right me...over 50 loves them and I get a lot of compliments..that is one way I am celebrating my weight loss. But I also love the wide legs and the trouser denims!! Never enough!
I agree Pam, but my hubby says my stack is too large to be needing more.
skinny jeans all the way for me!
i saw those wide-leg jeans on the Emerson Made site the other day. they are so cute!
i really think both wide leg and skinny can be worn by either body type as long as they fit correctly. but, i think i would pick skinnies to live in my closet if i could only pick one style!
thanks for your sweet comment on my blog this week! :)

awkwardly chic
Yeah I can love some of both types but skinnies make me feel the best.
Don't even get me started on jeans. I have waaaay too many, and they are all separated into different sections in my closet. Skinny, colored, wide, high-waited. I agree that those Emerson Made ones are to die for, and that the second ones look like raver jeans that I PRAY do not become fashionable again around here. Skinny jeans are still perfect with certain things. I love that variety is back!
Me too Laurel. Variety is the spice of life so we should start sampling. As long as our sampling doesn't include those hideous raver rejects in #2.
i'm so excited to embrace the flare jean look! only with heels - so that i can look taller!
Higgenbottom- I must say when I'm wearing my long flares with my high wedges I do feel empowered. ;)
I hate jeans! I LOVE the look on others, but have the absolute hardest time finding jeans to fit me. I have one pair I like out of probably seven in my closet...they are skinny. I should start a quest. My quest to find jeans I love!! :)
I'm pretty picky on jeans too and my no butt/lil tummy/skinny long legs combo makes it hard to find a pair a pair to love. But when I do. Heaven.
