Living Room Wishes & Another Best Of Renegade Inductee

Here we see my latest inductee to the Best Of Renegade Fair 2011 ,Kelly Moseley of Studio Anabel. She designs unique wall sculptures out of reclaimed wood, paint, paper, textiles, vintage maps and wallpapers. I'm afraid the picture doesn't do her pieces justice. The pleasing way the varied textures jutt out at the viewer just doesn't come across. Looking at them you got the feeling you wanted to reach out and touch the pieces (don't worry, I restrained myself). You were left to contemplate the past storied lives of each addition. The large piece to the right of her shoulder would look lovely in our living room. The print that you see in it is a vintage map of Paris. Combine that with the wood and color selections, and our grey velvet couch and I'd be a very happy girl!

Although I think she may have sold quite a few lately, so if there's a color scheme you don't see on her site, contact her and she can help you with a custom order.If your local to Austin, TX and need help sprucing up your home she also has a interior design business, Anabel Interiors. Over on the blog, Dress With Courage Elissa's post title of the day was "Miranda Kerr wants you to know about her underwear!". You'll have to read her post to know what she's speaking of, but I will tell you the talk veered towards what we all wear to be comfy at home. Are you the Stepford wife, sex kitten type who likes silky fripperies with heels?, the Beaver's mom type (I'm wondering if anyone will even get this reference from my Nick at Night watching days) with the perfectly ironed striped matching pajama set?, The Tomboy with a sports T-shirt and jogging pants?

When I come home I pull on cotton pajama pants covered with red and green apples and a docters scrub top. If I'm feeling like lookin cute I wear cute silky boxers and cami sets. Inevitably I get cold 2 seconds later and wrap myself in my husbands flannel plaid robe undoing anything possibly cute and sexy about it. To help my hubs remember what cuteness I'm wearing under his robe I sometimes flash him on the way to get a tissue. I feel justified in this because not only does he like the AC on high, he has an affinity for boxers that have been stretched out causing him to have the old man droopy bum look that is oh so attractive.

So what do yall wear? Please tell me I'm not alone in my comfort loving ways.

PS.My hubs would probably appreciate it if I mention that he actually has a really nice bum. Not droopy at all. Quite nice and pinchable if I do say so.

Austin Renegade Fair 2011 & The First Best Of Inductee

Last year Thomas went with me to the first Austin Renegade Fair. He was so sweet, patient and let me take as long as I wanted. Always acting truly interested as I pointed out item after item of crafty vintage and homemade lovliness. But as good as he is he didn't even try to contain his excitement when he heard I was inviting some friends to attend with me this year. I'll admit though I was wondering if my group would truly appreciate all that is Renegade. I've been looking forward to this all year. Will they be over it in an hour? Will they wanna (gasp!) start. in. the. middle? In the end I had nothing to worry about. Jen, Teanna, and Cathy loved it. We all perused at the same speed, and more importantly (also the most anal of my worries) we all wanted to start at the same end working our way thru row by row so we didn't miss anything. Yeah I'm that girl. You'd think my closet would be organized and my house mess free, but no dice.

Now on to the first of my Best of Austin Renegade Fair 2011 inductees:

McCheeks Mayhem is the work of the artisan Carole Smith pictured above. I asked her to stand next to that gorgeous owl cookie jar she fired. My budget didn't include it's purchase but it was one of my major lust items of the day. Jen bought one of those sweet lil owl babies. The 2nd Annual Renegade Fair is here, people!!! I went yesterday and Wow! If you haven't been yet, may I suggest you drop everything and get over to the Palmer Events Center right now! The Fair is open until 7 pm tonight. Not only do they have amazing items that you will surely want, nay.NEED, they have lovely creative people that are sure to inspire you in all your endeavors. As last year I can't possibly fit all that is Renegade into one post so I'll be posting all next week on my favorites.

Zooey Dechanel Has A New TV Show!

Yall are fully aware of my love for all things Zooey Dechanel as seen here, here, and here. So of course I had to give an excited shout out to prepare us all for her new fox show, The New Girl thats debuting in the fall lineup.

Zooey Deschanel stars as “a quirky clumsy teacher who moves in with three juvenile guys— the cynic, the player and the man-child — after being dumped.” Hilarity ensues as she goes thru the healing needed after the breakup, except she's surrounded by guys. I'm sure this involves ice cream, singing sad songs, chinese food, girly movies, crying, and talking endlessly to friends about what was wrong with the relationship. Or was that just my breakup plan?

Shopping Therapy Recession Style

Yeah, you guessed it. I'm craving a shopping trip. But as many others since the recession hit I've been budgeting. So I took my retail therapy online and put together the layout above of what I'd love to where if I had some cash to blow. I already own the Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch and the Burberry Brit
Perfume, thanks to my hubby. I love them both so much they are included even in my pretend outfits. The only thing I'd add is the grey tights I had on here. ;) Does anybody have any budget shopping tips? Or perhaps you'd like to share what item you've been drooling over?

Lunch Date w The Hubs: Bear Moon Bakery & Cafe Boerne,TX

The other day I rode with T on one of his jobs, seeing as it was going to be a short day we thought we'd make a date of it and stop for lunch in Boerne, TX on the way back. It was such a quaint little town. As we rode down Main Street he told me to select a restaurant. I saw two chic looking ladies walk into a cute Cafe called Bear Moon Bakery & Cafe. Seeing that as a good sign we pulled in. We were not to be disappointed! The swell of coffee, fresh baked pastries and slow simmered soups greeted us. The tables all had fresh Tulips sitting in little Amber vases welcoming and urging us to sit down. I got the Grilled Eggplant sandwich w/ their Pork Posole soup. T chose their Buffalo French Dip sandwich. Everything was so delicious. We ordered two of their cupcakes to go and agreed we would be back.

Nestled behind this find of a restaurant was a kitchen supply store called Kiss The Cook. As we browsed the store I stopped at a pie dish display to rearrange their pie steam birds so I could take a picture. (The birdies should be together, no?) T, seeing this, made a point to purchase these cute lil pie birds while I was in the back of the store. He surprised me with them when we were back in the truck on the way home. What a sweety. I will just have to make him a pie or two very soon!

Pinterest Iphone App Release!

Pinterest the "site to catalog the things you love", has released the Pinterest Iphone App today. Pinterest is a never ending pool of inspiration. And becoming a member allows you to build your own inspiration fileing unit labeled and organized however you so choose. So i'm sure this app is sure to be as epic as the original site has proved to be. Have you used Pinterest? Tried the app? Have another app suggestion I should be using?

Food Writing & Kitchen Nazis

I was reading one of my favorite foodie blogs, Molly Wizenberg's Orangette, recently where she reminded me of a previously read and enjoyed book I own. She shared an Almond Cake adapted recipe from Amanda Hesser's book, Cooking For Mr Latte . I love food writing books. A good example will have the feel of a friend sharing a good recipe and telling the story behind it. The first time they made it, who they served, the conversations that were sparked, the kitchen mess-ups & fixes, the inspirations, relatives, and traditions that cumulated in the recipes creation along with the development of characters make you connect and want to turn the page, leaving you sad when you reach the last one.

I promptly pulled it off the book shelf and started a re-read. After Chapter 10 entitled "Letting Go", I felt the need to break for a blog post. She writes here of a friend's confession of being a Kitchen Nazi striking a nerve with her. She goes on to entail her own kitchen idiosyncrasies. As I paused after reading the chapter I considered my own kitchen hangups. I love cooking. Sometimes it can be so relaxing, almost meditative chopping, stirring, boiling the most simple of recipes. Other times I'm filled with a burst of creative energy, merely playing with ingrediants, inventing my own creation. If you love to cook than you almost exclusively love to feed. This will usually bring the entry of people into your sacred kitchen. Some inevitably will ask if they can help. Some may ask for the recipe. I appreciate immensely the offer of assistance, and depending on my mood I may even except. However, as much as I enjoy cooking, the pressure of certain recipes requires a dance of pots, timers and consequitive events transpiring. A dance that sometimes can be thrown off by the addition of a well meaning talking friend, not allowing my brain to constantly be checking off the next to do of it all.

I'll take this oppertunity to give my own little confession story. I don't always want to give all my recipes away. This may be surprising to you seeing as I've shared many recipes here on the blog. I find it rather amusing, as well as perplexing why some get so aggitated by this rare occurance. Recently I had a group over for dinner on a day where time got away from me. There was no need to stress. I have a box of go to recipes that are easy to make and sure to impress. As some started to arrive I was cooking away. Into the kitchen enters a woman, let's just call her "The Hawk". The Hawk swooped in a flurry offering her help while lifting lids and taking in all the counters contents. As this was one of my "keep to myself" recipes I politely said I was almost done and merely asked if she could bring in the tray of appetizers to the other guests. I'll admit this was mainly just to get her out of the kitchen. She quickly returned asking what was in my creation. I vaguely threw out a few ingrediants that were pretty obvious and tried to change the subject. I'm not the best at being direct especially when it might be taken as rude or unkind. Since she made it apparant she wasn't leaving I gave her a job to do across the room at the table so I could add my secret ingrediants to the pot. She got the point I was'nt really wanting to share. However she had her own plan . She moved her project over to the counter with her back to me sending the "I'm not watching you" vibe. Yet The Hawk couldn't be trusted. She stealed glances repeatedly over her shoulder noting everything going on. In the end it was so ridiculous I finally told her the whole thing. But truthfully, is it so rude to want to cook for friends without giving up every recipe? If you want it again all you have to do is say so and come on back over. I'll gladly cook it all up for you again. I believe every good cook should have a few "trick" recipes up her sleeve. How do yall feel about this? Am I crazy?

Me and T have been fighting birds. Yes, that's right, we are at war with the birds around our house. The birds have decided the place where our stove vents from our house is the perfect place to set up a nest. Not only is this a dangerous idea for them to have it isn't exactly attractive when they stuff random bits of debris in the vent. So as they work tirelessly to find just the right fluffy nest bits and fly them over to stuff into the vent again and again we come and rip it out. Again and again. We are tired of this game and I feel bad for their work being for nothing. I imagine the husband bird trying to explain to the wife bird why their new home is taking forever to build. She's ready to have baby birds and he said it would be done a week ago.

When I saw the above layout in my May issue of Dwell I sighed in satisfaction. They layed out their "daily spread" beautifully. It included a finely curated grouping of items that I now wanted, especially that perfect lil egg cup. As you've heard from me before I love a good egg. Somehow this most simple food in all it's gooey oozy glory is comforting to me. My husband learned to make my favorite breakfast, soft boiled eggs and toast soldiers after we were married and has surprised me on several occasions with breakfast in bed.

Closet: New Options For Brides & Bridesmaids

In my life of 29 years I've stood in my fair share of weddings. My first trip down the aisle was as my sister's flowergirl, dressed as a mini bride, veil and all. Since than I've been dressed in quite the selection of dresses for these matrimonial occasions. From blood red to irridescent violet I've worn them all with a smile happy to participate in the joining of friends. Even if this means I add another "You can SO wear this again!" dress fails to my closet. Come on, you know you've thought to yourself too, "Yeah, but would I want to?". Fortunately I also have had the rare occasion of a couple bridesmaids dresses I actually like. I have the honor of walking in my dear friend Mindy's wedding in September of this year and the Jcrew dress she chose I will be happily wearing as often I can.

I write this all as a precursor to a new option that is available to brides. Selecting a dress from the designer inventory of Rent The Runway. Plate: Finger Lickin' Good Honey Mustard

Last night I got a hankering for chicken tenders. Now I know I'm supposed to be watching my diet right now, but calm yourself people, I was good all day. I put the chicken in the oven and only than did I realize I had no barbeque sauce. What's a girl to do? Well this here chick made homemade honey mustard sauce. And now you can too:

Finger Lickin Good Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

1/4 Cup Pure Honey
1/3 Cup Reg or Light Mayo
2 Tablespoons Good Quaility Dijon Mustard

Stir together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and honey till smooth and creamy. Chill in the refrigerator at least 2 hours before serving for flavors to meld. Since all three ingrediants keep for a while, so will your honey mustard dipping sauce!

I finished off the rest of my honey for this recipe so I used the jar as my new honey mustard container. Pretty cute if I do say so. I think the jar shape just called out to be filled with honey mustard. I think I'll swipe a lil chalk paint on the front so I can label it and use again. Enjoy my lovelies! ;)

Home: Creating A Table Of Memories

T really didn't know what he was getting himself into when he married me. When we made the last move after the honeymoon he was amazed at how much I had. As I unpacked seemingly endless (in T's mind) boxes he would always ask, "Whats that for? Where will we put that?" Or just plain out "What is that?". Thankfully after a year and a half of marriage when I come home from the flea market or thrift store with some stange oddity he knows I will find a use for it, I'll find a place for it, and whatever it is it makes me happy to nest our home with these "treasures". A few examples of my finds? A gumball machine, this odd glass vase, this lonely pepper shaker, a tub of old wooden thread spools? Yes please!

The picture above is our current centerpiece on our table. Yes, it changes. That amuses T too. It's made up of a small cake platter I got on clearance from Restoration Hardware/Pottery Barn Outlet, an old milk bottle my mom found half buried in our yard when I was little(We used to live in a really old plantation house in Alabama), leftover billy ball flowers from a friends graduation party, and an assortment of corks. Some corks have dates and friends names that we shared the contents of the bottle with written on them. Such a random assortment of items but all together they create a centerpiece that makes me smile.

The Texas Oak has me feeling all allergy today so I decided to treat myself to hot tea and magazines in bed for a bit. While reading the May issue of Real Simple I come across a genius ottoman. Not any mere ottoman. A beautiful Lilly Pulitzer "Shoe Pouf". This would be the perfect perch to sit upon while I put on my shoes and than providing the storage to nestle them safely away upon their return.

The magazine gave the Lilly Pulitzer Online site as the place to buy but after a few searches and even a call to their friendly customer service team I find that this gem is only available wholesale as of yet and will not be available thru their online site. I have an email in to find a list of locations we can fufill our ottoman desires. I'll update as soon as I have them.

Swimsuit Season Prep - Bloggers Edition, Goal 1

Alright folks, It's that time again. Swimsuit Season. The time to reveal my palest of areas to the world. A time to regret all the comfort food and hot chocolates I had over the winter. Why oh why did I not stay diligent? Ok, enough of the whining. Time to start anew. I know I can do it! Starting today Monday the 18th of April I'm setting a goal to lose 3 lbs. in 2 weeks.

How I plan to do it:

Actually GO to my gym. What a novel idea!
Water, water, water. Beat husband if he brings a soda in house!
Fill fridge and pantry with healthy food only.
Walk my dog every day.
Weigh myself on the Wii EVERY morning.

We hear time and time again how we should set a goal, write it down and tell others. So here's mine.

Plate: Sunday Morning Breakfast

This Sunday morning I thought I'd share the breakfast I made for me and T. Hot milky coffee, Mexi-Scambled eggs (Rotel diced tomatos & peppers, cheese, and eggs), and honey toast. Yumm.

Things about this picture that make me smile:
The bunny spoon on the honey was purchased on our honeymoon in Seattle.
The plate was a wedding gift from our bridal registry. Martha Stewart Maiden Hair Fern. (Connection-We used Maiden Hair Ferns in all our bouquets for the wedding.)
My favorite green cup. I also have a favorite pink cup. I'm silly like that.
That funky green striped runner I picked up thrifting for $1. Bargains make me happy. ;)

Denim Debate: Wide Legged Vs Skinny Jeans

As I was having my coffee and going thru my blog reader I came along the post, Not Skinny Jeans on the blog, Because I'm Addicted. Yesterday's post really got me thinking about denim so when I saw the picture below I felt the need to start a discussion. Denim is one of the basic building blocks of a wardrobe. As most women that love fashion, I have an embarrasingly unnecessary amount of jeans. In my defense we can all agree you need a variety of washes and styles. But how many is enough? Whats your personal preference? And how does body type play into your choice to follow denim trends?

2. Via Because I'm Addicted

And now we have new debates being formed. With the "comeback" of wide legged jeans designers are playing with porportions all over again. My latest favorite is #1 pictured at the top, Emersonmade's Original no stretch, dark wash, high waisted, widelegged, Bluebells. They are denim perfection to me. #2 is an example of, in my opinion, porportion that is off. Yes they are on trend. But can we say these jeans do anything at all for these models? What do you think about them?

3. Lauren Conrad, Blake Lively, Mischa Barton

And here we come to the Skinny Jean. I hope they stay in fashion because I love skinny jeans with heels or ballet flats. Cuffed, scrunched, or tucked into boots for that matter. I'll admit that while I adore Emersonmade's Bluebells for the 70s vibe and the ability to rock my highest platform wedges, on a regular everyday basis your going to find me in skinnies. I have skinny legs, a small butt, and the genetic failure of having any weight go to my tummy. With skinny jeans and the right shirt it balances me out. Try picturing the models in pic #2 wearing exactly what their wearing except switching their jeans to skinny. The slouchy laid back tops would than look more polished and flattering, in my opinion.

DIY Tutorial & Blog Highlight: A Pretty Penny

Plate: Super Easy Chicken Pastry Pot Pie!

I've been really lax lately on going grocery shopping. But this may be a new plan of attack for my food budget. It's forced me to make meals out of whats on hand, using pantry and frozen food stock. While I'll be the first one aboard the Buy in season fresh produce train we all know that's not going to happen everyday.
I wanted to share the unexpected brilliance (I'm so modest) that is my new Chicken Pot Pie recipe. I had previosly bought a box of frozen pastry sheets to play with. It sat unused waiting for its moment to shine. Fast forward to me looking thru freezer for dinner ideas. Light bulb! Use pastry sheets as crust for Chicken Pot Pie.So without further ado The recipe:

Chicken Pastry Pot Pie

2 Frozen Pastry Sheets, Thawed (I like Pepperidge Farm's)

1/4 Deboned Rotisserie Chicken (We had leftovers of a garlic seasoned one)

1/2 Bag Frozen Mixed Veggies

1 Can Cream of Chicken & Mushroom

Milk (For soup)

1/4 Cup Butter

1 Small Chopped Onion

1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard

1 Teaspoon Dried Thyme

Salt(I like Kosher Flake) & Pepper To Taste

1 Egg White to "Glossify"

Heat the oven to 400°F. Unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry sheet into a 12-inch square. Press 1 pastry sheet into a 12x12 casserole. Prick the pastry thoroughly with a fork. Place aluminum foil onto the surface of the pastry. Bake 20 min. Remove foil.

Place frozen veggies in boiling water. Cover and bring to a second boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 6-8 minutes till tender. Drain and put to the side. Heat the butter. Carmelize the onions. Add the can of soup and 2/3 can milk. Add dijon mustard, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir in chicken and veggies. Heat till thickened than pour onto crust. Lay remaining pastry sheet over the top of the casserole. Make slits in pastry with a sharp knife. It allows steam to escape and it looks pretty. Another tip to make it look glossy on top is brush the top of your pastry with egg white. Now your ready to pop it in the oven for 40-45 minutes till Pastry is golden brown.

This recipe is such a comfort food. Pair it with a good salad and your sure to impress. Does anybody have any ideas on recipe alterations or a link to your favorite easy comfort food? Please sharewith us in the comments.

I stumbled upon quite the treasure trove today. Mai Autumn is a finely curated online shop ran by Christine Lindstrom. Since 2009 shes been offering up her designed jewlery, home decor, photography and paintings.

From time to time she adds to the mix discovered vintage curiosities, or handmade wares from her favorite designers.

I selected a few of her treasures to show you the depth of lovliness that awaits you at her site. I can think of a myriad of delights to press between the panes of the locket above. Well what do ya know Kate Spade and Adeline are selling the perfect bike. I described to T this exact bike awhile ago. A bike from my dreams. My favorite color, kelly green. Has to have a basket big enough for my Maltese-Gidget and flowers/foodstuffs from the market. Also has to be able to strap a vintage suitcase to the back. When I'm riding this bike in my dreams of course I will be wearing cute shoes and the wind will blow just so. Cheery spring inviting music will hang on the wind. Oh, and look there. It's a woman offering me yummy cupcakes. Why, yes I don't mind if I do. I'll take them all please. Yes, wrap them up in the cutest pink boxes you have. I'm so happy I could go for a game of hopscotch. How convenient theres one now...How does Kate Spade do that? I think they have a connection to my dreams. Thomas took me on a Breakfast date to one of my favorite bistro restaurants in Austin, The Blue Dahlia. I took the opportunity to take a few pics (Ok T took them) of what I wore. Please forgive the lack of sufficient makeup. I was feeling all springy so I went the minimal route but now that I see the pictures I think a bit more wouldn't have hurt.

Gidget wanted to know what all the fuss was about so we let her in on the action. Our baby is pretty darn cute, right?

This is the kind of pic you get when you let a man be in charge of the camera. While I would normally not show you T's "outtakes", this was the only picture I had that you could actually see the pale lipstick mark pattern of the dress. I scoured the web trying to find a link for you but no luck. I guess I got the last one at the BCBG Final Cut Outlet. It was origanally over $125 but I got it on sale for $30! Always go straight for the sales racks first ladies!

I love the back of this dress. Also another gratuitous show of my favorite accessory, my Michael Kors watch.

And last but not least my Dillon Cork Wedges, found at a TJMax. And why you may ask am I on a stump? Well the props in our backyard are not endless people, so we work with what we got. ;)

When I lived in Louisiana years ago I found a beautifully decorated boutique on Magazine St full of vintage and vintage/retro styled dresses. I nearly swooned. Not cheap knockoffs, mind you. Quality flattering feminine garments made with the best fabrics, and attention to details like silk linings. Little did I know they have a website. How did this elude me? I haven't the faintest. I just thought they were that chic lil' shop I liked in the city too far away. But my dears not only are they online, they are having a SALE!

Trashy Diva is that beautiful shop. I thought I'd give an excerpt from their Q&A page on their thinking behind the naming(I always wondered myself).

I still remember the excitement I got as a child when I recieved a letter in the mail. Who am I kidding? I STILL get excited when I recieve letters. In a world of bills and junk mail, texting, tweeting, and emails, the beauty of a letter is all the more appreciated. I beg us all to slow down and participate this month by remembering the 80's Lisa Frank stationary kit loving girls of our past. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who collected stationary in piles, almost in a hoarding fashion? I always took forever to decide on a sticker to seal the envelope. My style may have changed but I still have quite the stockpile of stationary just waiting to be used. I've found how to take my surplus mobile...

While I was looking around for stationary supplies I stumbled on this lovely Etsy shop, Downstairs Designs that has some great clutch organizers that would be perfect for holding a selection of papers, notecards, envelopes, and stamps so you can write on the go. Some designs sized to fit Nooks, Kindles, and IPads. Now that I've got the tools picked out I'm making a goal to send out atleast 5 letters to friends this month. The Search For The Elusive Simple Ballet Flat

A run in with a family member's excited puppy finished off my old ballet flats. That's right, friends. I got tinkled on. I think he meant it as a compliment. I tried to clean them the best I could and layed them out to dry. But the metal grommets from the top of the flats rusted over. Honestly they still kinda smelled so it was time. So into the garbage they fell and off to the mall I went.

I knew what I wanted. A simple black ballet flat. No embellishments. No crazy textures. Just classic quailty for a reasonable price. I ignorantly thought this would be an easy task. After about 6 different stores of no options I was beginning to understand how wrong I was. When my trusty Jcrew outlet even let me down offering only PVC smelling flats with little bows I was almost ready to admit defeat and head home to the internet. The sales lady explained that Jcrew made some things especially for their outlet stores. So these flats they were selling were like the ones in the catalog but not in the same materials so they could offer them for cheaper outlet prices. Hmm. Now, I have faux leather shoes yall. But I was not in the mood to settle for $70(on sale!Orig $90) PVC bow replacements. Thanks to Neiman Marcus Last Call Outlet I didn't have to. There on the clearance rack, the shoes parted. The light shone down. I'm pretty sure there was singing. Oh, was that just me? The perfect pair of Dolce Vita black suede flats on CLEARANCE! And in MY size! Originally $145 I got them for less than $50 with no PVC in sight. It's moments like this that turn some women into shopaholics.

They are out of stock of the suede beauties I got but these are available. And these are a lovely choice if you need brown. I'm noticing all my selections are by Dolce Vita. They soo get me!

I finally got a chance to read the latest issue of Rue magazine. When I got to the layout called In The Buff I paused to take in the delights. I'm loving this color combo right now seeing as how I was already wearing it. They call it Rosy Nude and Airy Aloe. Glad to know I'm Rue approved. I thought I'd take the opportunity to show yall my Michael Kors Rose Gold WatchI got a few weeks ago. With all the TxSCC goings on I haven't posted about it. Thomas came back from a work trip and announced that I needed to get dressed so we could go pick out my new watch. As you can imagine I quickly obliged.

Molly Wizenberg In Where Women Cook

I was browsing the magazine section at Hastings Bookstore when I stopped in my tracks upon sighting the lovely smile of Molly Wizenberg. She was smiling back at me from the latest issue of Where Woman Cook (Issue #2 to be exact).I purchased the magazine with a swiftness. Those who are not currently aware of Ms Wizenburg should kindly familiarize themselves with Orangette.blogspot.com. Not only is Molly an excellent food blogger, she also spun her delightful recipes in with a frothy mix of storytelling to give us her book, A Homemade Life.

The article has some great shots of Molly at Delancey, the restaurant she owns with her husband Brandon. Me and Thomas got a chance to visit Delancey while we were in Seattle on our honeymoon in October of 2009. They had only been open a little over 2 months and didn't yet have a sign up. We arrived 30 mins before they opened, as I read on her blog that sometimes there was a line to get in. There was but we were near the front of it. We enjoyed our dinner so much. I even got to see Molly in the flesh but was too star struck to say anything to her. One day we'll make a trip back and hopefully I'll finally say hi and get a picture with Molly.

Molly wasn't the only beautiful creative type featured. The entire magazine was chock full of inspiration and stunning photos. I always love seeing artists studio spaces and this new magazine totally captures that spirit. These amazing cooks showing their most intimate space, their kitchens, where they create their masterpieces! I would love to share them all but you'll just have to get your own copy.

I knew when I heard her voice I would be sharing her with my lovely blog readers but even more so when I found out what she was currently doing. Kat Edmonson is a local Austin,TX singer songwriter who wants to take her music into her own hands. She's currently trying to pool resources for a second album without a label. She launched a Kickstarter campaign on March 1 to help raise funds for her second album. This campaign will continue through April 1. People have already offered up $33,354 towards her goal of $50,000. But the way Kickstarter.com works is if you don't reach your goal, you lose all your pledges. The Best Chicken Salad Ever AKA-"The Jessica"

Every time I make a Chicken salad croissant I think of Jessica. She was kind enough to share the recipe with me. I met Jessica on a trip to San Francisco with friends where we stayed at her lovely home. She (and her kind husband) were the epitome of hospitality. The kind of hostess that thought of things before you even needed them and always greets you with a smile. She also happens to be a funny, beautiful,creative, mom who runs her own handmade Etsy business, A Little Birdie Told Moi. Since she deemed to share her brilliance with me I'll take this opportunity to share with all of you this lovely and quick recipe. It's the collection of simple classics like this that will impress your friends. This is no dry and bland chicken salad, people. No. This is bursting in your mouth flavor on buttery flaky croissant goodness. Pair with wine and fruit and you have yourself a perfect spring picnic basket!

The Best Chicken Salad Ever AKA-"The Jessica"
De-boned Rotisserie Chicken
(ea cut in 1/4)Red Seedless Grapes
finely chopped 3-4 stalks Celery
1 can Mandarin (optional)
Pecans (optional)
Dill Weed
Salt & Pepper
Mayo

You can use any chicken in theory but I urge you to use a rotisserie as they are usually juicy and time effective. Now you have less work and more time to go on that picnic. Feel free to play with the different flavors they come in. I use a Jalepeno garlic rotisserie whenever its at my local grocery. The flavors meld together so nicely. Once you've deboned chicken, pull chicken apart into small pieces or you can put in food processer if your so inclined but I prefer the "homier" chunks myself. Mix all ingrediants together using less mayo than you'd think and keep stirring till all is moist and creamy. Add dill weed, salt, and pepper to taste.

Now this point is paramount. While of course this chicken salad would be delish with any bread it simply DESERVES a croissant! Cut it in half, toast it at 400' for a few minutes and than revel in your warm flakey chicken salad goodness. You my friend, are now a domestic diva just like Jessica!

I need your help my lovelies! I got to meet the lovely lass that is behind the creations over at Clydesrebirth while she was at the Texas Style Council Conference last week. She had an amazing harness on display that I locked eyes on as soon as I saw it. When I asked about it she informed me that she was having a contest for a $75 gift certificate, that I could use to purchase said eclectic bauble. Alls I had to do was try her on and let her take a pic(the pic you see above). Well yall, the heat is on. She's posted the pics of all the girls who tried "my" harness on and now people get to vote who wore it best. TxSCC Recap Day 1: Swap Night

The first annual Texas Style Council's Blogger Conference was kicked off by a Swap being held in the 2nd Street District of Austin, TX during the week of SXSW. The one of the underwriters for the event was Swap.com and The Swapaholics. They really knew how to put on a swap. They got great vintage stuff from Market Publique to sprinkle into the swap offerings. Basically the premise was you bring a bag, you get a bag, of clothes & accessories that is. As I recently did a rehaul of my closet I had a bit to exchange. I talked a group of nonblogger friends into letting me drag them along. We got there early enough to drop off our bags and run over to How Do You Roll for some quick sushi. It was very tasty and their service rocked so much I ended up eating there 3 times that weekend. When we got back to the swap location there was a line wrapped around the building of girls peering lustily thru the windows as the organizers layed out the goods. As soon as they opened the doors it was a mad dash. I admit I was a bit overwhelmed. People were grabbing and literally scooping at the clothing, with the "Grab and figure out if you wanna keep it later" approach. I went for the more passive, "Oh you were reaching for that, go ahead. No, you take it" approach. But however you did it, seemed like everyone won out in the end.

After the swap we headed to Tart for some frozen yogurt and a little show and tell to peruse our finds. Everyone I was with came away with quite a haul. I got a cute pair of flats, 2 dresses, floral jacket, and a Vintage apple pin (favorite score)& torn vintage shirt from Market Publique(I have plans to stitch up some embroidery art to patch it), and oh yeah, an Armani shirt! Thank you whoever you are that exchanged such lovely items. I will wear them sending warm wishes your way. My friend Tiffany found a Dolce and Gabbana jacket among other things. She was on Swap overdrive. Who knew such a lil thing could move so fast!It was a great start to a wonderful weekend. I so hope the TxSCC is kicked off exactly the same for next year!

Stylish Cleaning Supplies?

For my readers who need a lil breaky from SXSW and TXSCC

As you've seen here and here I can be a bit obsessive about making the practical cute. My cleaning supplies are yet another example of that. Thought I'd let yall sneak a peek of my latest quick crafting. I always keep a counter spray by the sink ready for a quick swipe. But who wants to display advertising , right? A couple of layers of Mod Podge and some pretty paper later and we're sittin pretty advertising nothing but cute(Follow my tutorial here except only cover where label already is). I myself like the shape of the bottle that my Method cucumber counter spray, from Target(much cheaper there but couldn't find it on Target.com), comes in so when I finish off a bottle I decorate the new one and pour another cleaning product like Windex,Woolite, Lime Away, or Febreeze(anything sprayable)into the old one. So eventually the plan is to have pretty, varied, patterned, uniform labeled bottles under my sink. Yeah, I know. I know. But trust me, these are goals people. I am not Martha. Although I'd like to think she'd approve of the project. Trust me, I'm not there yet. I won't be snapin a pic of under my sink anytime soon. But eventually it's gonna be Cuuuute!

Hanging With Hubs After SXSW TXSCC Weekend

I have had One. Fantastic. Weekend. The Texas Style Council Conference was so inspiring. I met A-Maz-Zing people. Bloggers, shop owners and employees, techies,random people on the street and even the dogs were out in full force and livin it up for SXSW. Every morning I woke up excited for the day. Every night as I got in my car to go home I heard music in the streets urging me to stay. Only my aching feet reminded me I needed rest to accomplish and fully appreciate all that was available. Theres so much to share with you about the weekend. Don't worry I will, but first, my hubby was due some much needed attention. So we headed out for lunch and errands together.

Our destination for lunch was Clear Springs Restaurant. We had fried pickles, a shrimp poboy, a cheeseburger, and of course, sweet tea. Their service was great. I definately recomend them. I took the opportunity to throw some of my swag I recieved this weekend into my outfit. The shirt was courtesy of Stripedshirt. Let me tell you this tshirt is not just any tee. It's oh so comfy and the thicker material feels good to the touch. I paired it with the owl medal that I won from Lulus at the BoConcept Blogger party Saturday night.

I wanted to make sure I got a shot of my penny loafers. I added 2 shiny pennys to them. A girl named Penney, wearing pennys. Cliche? Who cares? Not me. Gidget seemed to approve. She came and layed down next to me giving me the chance to mutitask with the pic to show yall the lil dog tee from Lofty Dog I won as part of the TXSCC Blogger Scavenger hunt 3rd place gift bag. I'm off to cuddle with T and catch up on Chuck. Tomorrow, full disclosure. Promise.

If Only...Sigh

You know my lovely shopping trick to help me make wise purchases and stay on budget that worked out so well here. Well not so much my favorite trick anymore. I was at good ol' Tar'get and saw a set of bangles. They were lovely and simple and perfect. But they were 19.00, at Target, people. So I took out my trusty camera and snapped a pic to deliberate and move on. Only thing is, there was no moving on. Suddenly these bangles were what was standing in my way of having the ultimate accessory collection. I now needed these bangles. Wearing these bangles I think I could whisk the perfect chocolate mousse. Yes, that's it I could feed the hungry with my perfect chocolate mousse wearing these bangles.(Ok , I know a bit much. But you get the point, I wanted em.)When I went back to Target the next day...you guessed it. No BANGLES! There are also nowhere to be found online.

So take it from me. When you really like something go ahead and get it.

All You Need Is Love...And Another Miracle

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, than you know my parents are currently visiting. I love my parents. My mother particularly is a dear. But let's be honest, shall we? Parents visiting their grown(FYI-parents will NEVER see you as such)children can leave alot of stress in their wake. "Helpful hints" are a plenty. "Let me show you how to do that", "I'm your mother. If I don't tell you, who's going to?", and my favorite, "Your going to wear that?". Yes, mothers you can't live with em, you can't come into this world without em! A few days into their visit the stress brought on a fever blister. A day later I started breaking out. Last night I started feeling sick. My body is either rebelling or reversing back into puberty from the stress and hen pecking. Don't get me wrong, we've also had alot of fun with them on this trip. They leave tomorrow and we'll miss them, even the "helpful hints". Ok, maybe not the hints. ;)

I hope I'm not sick and gross looking for all the Tx Style Council Conference events happening this weekend. To make myself feel better in my sicky state I cruised the internet for inspiration on what to pull from my closet for all my events. I came across alot of "If only I was made of money". I made up the above set with some of those items along with items from my closet. I'm lusting over that beautiful Juicy Couture lace dress(Dress. Ha, as you can see I'd wear it with shorts). And that Coach bag is so delish I could naw on it. The only way either of those are gonna end up in my possession is a miracle 75% off sale. Hey, It could happen.

Oh well. I think I'll atleast go get those nail polish colors for a quirky mani.

Spring Gardening With Heidi & Grandfather Anyone?

While watching a movie last night I spied a greenhouse made of varied old windows. I feel a spring newlywed yard project comin on! (Thomas felt it too. He's scared.) It's weird little cuckoo projects like this that makes me go weak in the knees.

After searching the internet for greenhouse inspiration I found this post by Lloyd Kahn. I'm loving his take on it, especially the wood and paint combo. Our fantasy greenhouse's painted portion would be white. And I'd hang assorted bright colored lanterns from the edge of the roof. And as you can see from my set above I'd have to fill and surround it with all manner of quirky goods. And yes, for some reason this means we need a goat. Make that two goats, a boy and a girl. We could name them Heidi and Grandfather. Yep, it's decided. I'm off to search craigslist for old windows.

Shopping Smart And Looking Pretty(I love that song, the city sketch on my set made me think of it.)

I was going to post about the Oscars but after my morning cup of coffee and some time reading in blogland I was over it.

So instead I'll just have to tell you of my retail therapy miracle. I soo needed one today. My parents are coming for a visit, 2 days EARLY. Words were had. Stress bubbled forth, cleaning frenzies ensued. After a while I needed a breather so I left the house to run some errands. Somehow I ended up at Neiman Marcus. I was just there to look, to destress, to unwind. I might as well check the clearance racks, right? Ofcourse. I found a washed silk and lace Theory dress (See above) originally $265 on clearance for $92, with an additional 30% off on top of that. I admit I tried it on. There's where I went wrong(or right depending on how ya see it) This dress wanted me. Needed me. It wasn't me, it was the dress! Alas the dress was still not in todays budget. But I had an idea. You see the dress's thread was unraveling from the seam(super easy fix). I couldn't leave the dress there, especially injured like that. So I asked the manager sweetly what could be done? She promptly increased the additional discount to 50% off. So let's review. I got a sweet $265 Silk and lace Theory dress for $46! I feel better all ready. The world is a better place. A place where retail miracles happen.

What To Bring To A Blogger Conference

I pulled this set together after doing some research around the web on what to bring to bloggers conferences (there's not really alot). I myself will be attending my first, The Texas Style Council Conference being held March 11th-13th. So without further ado, the list:

Your Laptop, Ipad, Iphone, whatever your going to use to keep connected to your readers during your conference. They want to know want your doing.
Bring a fully charged camera, ready to grab shots of all the inspiration to share.
Comfortable Shoes. Your going to be walking and standing around networking right?
Business cards to pass out to all you meet for potential readers or connections.
A notebook and pen/pencil to take notes from all the wisdom your lovely speakers will be sharing with you.
A planner in case you need to do some on the spot schedule checking. "Can you guest post on these dates?"
Your trusty watch so you will be sure to be on time and not miss a moment!
A scarf or hair tie in case you need to pull your hair back. (This is just me being weird. I like to pull my hair back when I'm really getting into something (studying, taking notes, eating cupcakes).
Make sure you pack your glasses or contacts(if needed, or if not, I love a good geek chic look) to see all that you can see!
I like to keep a lotion and a water in my bag to stay hydrated in every way.
I read of alot of people who suggested the possibility of bringing something for your fellow attendees. Some suggested key chains, pens, or Postcards with your blog name. I'm still thinking on this one. I'll let ya know what I come up with.
A collection of questions. Your chance to get answers.
A knowledge of the attendee and speakers blogs and or expertise.
Your smile! This is your best networking tool. Be your self.
Your style! No need to go out and buy anything new. Shop your closet for something you will be comfortable in and will make a good 1st impression.
And finally... An eager ear to listen and learn!

As you can see above I decided on the Black and Pewter Juicy Couture Iphone case. It just looks "right" next to my rose gold clutch wallet($5 wholesale at 2010 Jewelry show), 2011 silver leather planner , and my Plush Too Faced Glamour Lip Gloss ($9 sale!).

I also found(on the Now Style Book Blog) a very chic app that should be on every Stylish girl's must have app list: The Gadabout's Post App, let's you send stylish Gadabout stationary designs thru sms and emails. So quick text invites become so ooh la la. And last minute join us plans become so "Martha". And we all need a little "Martha" in our lives.

Party Dipped Pretzel Rods Tutorial/Recipe

I had some friends over for dinner Saturday night. They just so happen to have 2 very, I'm talkin VERY, cute girls. So I wanted to make something special for dessert. What little kid doesn't like decorating with candy?

So clean out your cabinet with anything that would go with chocolate(dried fruits, candies, nuts). I poured selections of colorful sprinkles, mini M&Ms, shredded coconut, and almonds. Place these along with pretzel rods and marshmallow fluff on wax covered tray or pan.

Melt 1 cup chocolate chips in microwave for 1 minute. I did one bowl of white chocolate and one bowl milk chocolate, mainly for the possible pretty swirl effects. Than let everybody decorate to their hearts content.

These are the ones that were left (We ate all the pretty ones, and my 5yr old apprentice helped me decorate the rest). Well, for a little while. They are all gone now! My favorite was the Almond Joy-esque one with milk chocolate, coconut, and almonds. And the Smores, Marshmallow fluff dipped than covered in milk chocolate. T, having the usual taste sensabilities of a 10 year old, loved it when all the colorful sprinkles and mini M&Ms were globbed on in yummy blobs. I love him for stuff like that. Let me know what combinations you come up with.

Hubs had off yesterday so we took the opportunity to spend the day in the 2nd Street District of Austin. I wanted to have a recent walk thru under my belt before the TxSCC Scavenger Hunt in March. We started our day with a visit to Austin Java with a Mocha Mudslide for T and a Chai Latte for me. The staff were great, they had eclectic people watching and delish drinks, we'll definately be back. I felt much better prepared to formulate my scavenger hunt plan of attack.

You may have noticed the new Texas Style Council button on the top right of the page. I'm looking forward to attending the Bloggers conference they are putting together during SXSW in Austin, TX. This year SXSW are extending their festival to focus not only Film, Music, and Interactive but also the world of style through their new StyleX (pronounced "Style By").

"Style X includes a pop-up retail showcase that will serve as the official shopping experience of SXSW with dozens of brands from around the country bringing the latest designs in screenprinting and design, women’s, menswear, streetwear, swimwear and accessories. Also, Style By will host multiple fashion shows, each celebrating a different segment of style."

Which brings me to the fabulous DIY Fashion Show being sponsered by Burdastyle and Etsy. I love and am members of both of these sites. I am so excited to participate in all the events. Just to give you a taste of a few of the events I'm planning on attending:

Friday, March 11th~ Clothing Swap 7-10pm

Saturday, March 12th~Scavenger Hunt/Boutique Crawl noon-5pm, Pop up shop dance party at Bo Concept showroom 7pm-late,

Sunday, March 13th~Bloggers Brunch 10am-noon, Morning cocktails at Plain Ivey Jane, Social Media Symposium noon-6pm (with great speakers on everything from blogging, Etsy, writing, and photography. With cupcake breaks, no less!) , And to wrap it all up there will be a SXSW Fashion show by Burdastyle and Etsy at Aces Lounge in Austin.

I'm gonna be quite the busy girl that weekend. I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures and notes to share!

Tutorial: Boutique Necklace Display

When I organized my dresser top I teased you with a peek of my latest DIY, promising a tutorial. Well here it is my lovelies! I've been using this for over a week and it is sooo much better than the metal tree branch contraption that used to take up most of my dresser. It would tip over every now and then, spilling jewelry and scattering earrings into the great beyond, never to be seen again. But this display? Aaahh this display makes it easy to see your inventory in one shot. And it almost beckons you to hang back your jewelry in the right spot.

I've noted the materials you'll need above. You can use any fabric that thrills ya, but I decided to use a canvas material to let my necklaces be the main attraction. I used an unused cork board that was laying around the house but you can use cork tiles or a piece of wood if that's what you have. Just make sure you think out how much space you'll need to have for your necklace collection.

1) Cut fabric 3 1/2 inches bigger than board on all sides. Cut Batting 2 inches bigger on all sides. Now layer fabric, batting, and than upside down (right side facing batting) cork board.

2) Fold fabric and batting tightly over each corner and staple with staple gun.

3) Now fold each edge in on it self again, pulling tightly as you go. Staple each.

4) On Top back of board screw in what I call hanging "teeth". You can get these at Walmart or Lowes. You can buy them separately but they also come in Hanging Kits . My kit also included the nails I used for this project. You can also use wire and screws.

5) Figure how many nails you want to hold your collection than measure spacing and nail away. Protect your digits! Push in brads in the corners. (I orinally thought I was gonna go all around with the brads, but when I did the corners it just looked fresh, so I went with it.

I'm One Of Those People...

I've had a Love/Hate thing going with the Iphone for a while now. Don't get me wrong, of course they're awesome and make life so much easier. I'm not gonna argue. But then there's always someone that won't stop talking about their Iphone apps or that friend who can't pry their eyes away from theirs 5 min for you to have a proper conversation. You know the ones. If you have anything other than the Iphone they laugh and say your livin in the stone age.

Well friends, me and T just caved and joined the rest of society majority by buying an Iphone. I promise to try my best to not turn into one of those people but it's pretty much a given.

The fun part was trying to figure out what protective case to get. Through my search I've narrowed it down to my 4 favorites:

Green vintage rotary by Kate Spade
Pink and gold polka dots by Juicy Couture
Black and pewter polka dots by Juicy Couture
Silver python by Chloe

While the Chloe is by far my fave, it's just not gonna happen. First of all it's from 2009 and it was $371.55. But I couldn't help but share, seeing it was the best. The other three are way more reasonably attainable. Which one do yall like?

Wants and Wishes: Warby Parker

I originally heard about Warby Parker through The Girls With Glasses Show over a year ago. (Which if you are a girl with glasses, or just love style and generally all things cute and chic, you should check em out) The Warby Parker aesthetic is vintage-inspired, with a fashion forward twist. For each pair bought they give a pair to someone in need, much in the same way Toms opperates.

With their Home Try-On Program, you can select any five pairs of glasses and they’ll ship them to you for free. You’ll have five days to try out the frames, ask family and friends for second opinions, and pick your favorite pair(s.) Ship them back (on them) and place your order online. There's even a place on their website where you can upload your picture and "try on a pair". And In addition all of their glasses, including anti reflective prescription lenses, are under $100!

But for some reason I still havn't yet bought a pair. My current (very expensive-black and baby blue Calvin Klein) glasses are only 2-3 years old and working fine. So there's no real "need". But I will definately be getting my next pair from Warby Parker. You can see some of my picks above. The pink ones in particular hold a special place in my heart. My first glasses I had as a child were a pink on pink marbled pair that my mom let me pick out myself. I was so proud of them and still remember the elation of seeing clearly individual leaves on the trees. But school and peers being as it is, it wasn't long before I made the switch to contacts.But as I've come into my own I've used my glasses as another way to show another reflection of myself. The pink Warby Parker's are the chic adult version of my first sight givers. Hmmm, I can see the outfits they'd accesssorize already...

Show and Tell ~Dresser Top

One of the many places I had on my list this year to organize is the top of my dresser. It's the catch all for all my hair accessories, jewlery, nail polish, perfume, and beauty tools. Thats alot of stuff to keep from becoming a pile. I personally like to keep these items in view so I remember to add them to my outfits before running out the door. Recently I was shopping at Pottery Barn and came across this great lacquered tray on clearance for $6.97! It was just the inspiration I needed to spur on my dresser makeover...

I corralled all my perfumes into the tray. Nail polish was added into my antique pink ceramic from my mother. Only the newish nail polishes were kept. The long forgotten and clumpy polishes were tossed. Yea me! Into a tea cup T bought for me when we were dating I put hair pins, safty pins, nail clippers, and tweezers. On the matching saucer I added all my post back earrings.

My hook back earrings were displayed neatly and in full view on this DIY display(gift from a friend), made from as old frame and wire back.

I used an old brass candleabra to hang my hair accessories and sunglasses on. Everything from headbands, scarfs, and flower hairclips. In the top picture in the mirror you can see the display I made to hold my necklaces. I'll be posting a tutorial soon!

Increasing Style In The Home~Laundry Room 2

Since I no longer need to store my Tide powder in the box it comes in (see why here), I thought I'd get abit crafty and recycle it into a storage solution for all those laundry odds and ends that litter the top of my machines.

So here's how I do it:

1. KEEP IT CLEAN. Start with a clean and empty box. Please put down some newspaper or plastic so you don't make a mess. I did but it wasn't being photogenic so it didn't make the edits. ;)

2. Take your trusty sponge brush and evenly apply a smooth layer of Mod Podge to the box.
3. Press down paper over mod podge, folding over edges and using exacto knife cut where needed to avoid excessive layering. Adding Mod Podge as needed to ensure stick.
4. After drying, 5min will do, Mod Podge over paper evenly. After drying your box will now be sealed and can be wiped off as needed(This is very handy when men folk try to do the wash and get strange splashes on things. My theory is they dance while doing laundry. Surely that explains it).

Remember when T surprised me with our morning trip to The Blue Dahlia and Anthropologie? I said I would show yall what he surprised me with. You see the colorful dials on my stove? T surprised me with another Anthropoligie timer. He's so such a dear. He heard me say one day "Wouldn't it be nice to have another so the stove top would be symmetrical". Not only did he get me the timer, he knew I would want a green one to balance out the colors. (The wall color is going to painted white in the hopefully not so faraway future.) What do ya think?

I opened my email this morning to discover an exciting announcement. One of my favorite stores, Anthropoligie, is opening a bridal division named BHLDN. I thought I liked JCrew's Bridal dresses but I'm sure to Love BHLDN's options. It's too bad I'm already married. I simply must match up all remaining friends so as to have reasons to shop at the sure to be bridal heaven. I'm really liking those gloves below. Surely I can work that into my spring look. I will find a reason to go, I promise you.

-No more pondering a name that would incapsulate all that is the Penney Soup that goes on over here at Maybe This Door. I truly believe I had it right. This morning hubs informed me as soon as I woke up to get dressed because he had a surprise for me. He drove me into Austin to go to the lil french cafe, The Blue Dahlia, I've been wanting to try for breakfast. As pleased as I was with my delish breakfast when he drove me to Anthropoligie next I was beyond delighted. He must want something you say. Nope he's just a dazzling darling of a man and he's mine so you can't have him!

I took a couple pics of some books while we were there to add to my wish list(They are always cheaper on Amazon).

Increasing Style In The Home~ Laundry Room!

Many of my 2011 Todos include organization and creating more style with purpose in our home. I was inspired by the Emersonmade Home I wrote about here to look through our humble abode for ways to improve the every day items in our home. The things we use the most and that we can get the greatest joy return with a lil improvement. I refuse to show you a Before of my laundry room as it is a Work In Progress. But I have chosen to show you the first step I made that makes me smile every time I do laundry. And that's sayin something!

Laundry Detergent 101:
I tried to be a Mrs Meyers Laundry Girl but found their liquid bottle drips down the side making icky messes(Especially when the hubby does laundry). The Tide powder works well and doesnt drip but the bulky box and bright logo made me feel like I was being slapped with a commercial with every load. So out came my pretty glass container and one of my vintage milk glass teacups. Tres chic, no?

My Happy Day Ensemble by salsapeeps featuring seven for all mankind jeans

Last night Thomas took me to the Clay Pit, an Indian restaurant I'd been wanting to try in Austin. (Delish!) Afterwards we dropped into Anthropoligie "to look around". I always love to see the windows and vignettes they put together, but on top of that pleasure, they had sales racks exploding out of their sales room. Miracle of miracles on one of those racks I found an adorable top I've been lusting over at 50% off! I don't think you can tell from the pic but it has the sweetest pockets and optional straps. I put together an ensemble inspired by my new purchase,some items from my own closet as well as a few items I'm currently drooling over. (Click on picture to make bigger.)What do yall think?

In my latest issue of The Nest magazine they show us a peek into the couple behind Emersonmade, the online shop and blog that inspires countless dears and dearies. (Click on pics to make them bigger.)
I would expect nothing less of these two mind you, but gee willigers I'm jealous of their pad.
Their house motto was "Keep it simple and in plain sight. No hidden junk." What cleansing inspired words. My cabinets under my kitchen and bathroom sinks laugh at me as I aspire to that quote.

I decided to hang my plates in the kitchen(over the doorway, looking into the living room-which will eventually be a warm flesh color) to remind me to bring out my inner 50/60s domestic goddess. You know, the kind that greets their husband in cute dresses with frilly aprons and a cocktail and a kiss saying, "Dinner's ready." Ok so that's not gonna happen exactly for T but I could stand to get out of my Juicy stetchy pants a lil sooner and use more lipgloss. I had these hanging in the kitchen of my first apartment and they still make me smile. They've been in a box put away for a few years now so I think they deserve a lil livin.

The wall that they are hung on will be painted as soon as I can decide on a color(and stop procrastinating). I'm pretty sure the trim will be painted white to match the cabinets that are still waiting to be painted. Ahh to do lists. It's what January is all about.

DIY Shoe Makeover

Some of my heels didn't quite make it unscathed in the move to Texas. As you can see my pinky violet heels above were pretty much unwearable but I couldn't bear to throw them away. So inspired by these pretties I got the idea in my head that I could glitter em up!
I rubbed the heels done to even out. I brushed on glue. Glittered with a fine Martha Stewart fine goldy bronze glitter. Than sprayed it with clear acyrlic to seal them so I didn't leave glitter trails with every step. What do yall think?

I love all the white in this kitchen. Forgive me I forgot where I got this pic-I pulled it out of an old inspiration file. If you know, please share. One of my (soon to be posted) 2011 to dos will be to paint my kitchen cabinets white. That way all my dishes and random quirky colorful goodness will sing!

Also I will need to organize all my fabric and craftiness- AGAIN. Isn't this curio cabinet delish with all those stacked fabric loot? Mmmm.

PS. As I'm sure you've noticed I've spruced the bloggity up a bit for 2011. What do yall think? Do you like the changes? Have any suggestions? Any changes or features yall particularly like?

What Will I Do With This?

Sometimes I see something that strikes my fancy for no apparent reason. I might not know where I'm going to use it or where it will fit or match. But if it calls to me in the words of "this is YOU" (and is reasonably affordable and in budget) than theres a high chance I'm gonna try and bring that something home with me. I always love the interiors that show the personality and style of the people that live there. The collected treasures that accumulate into the overall design. I bought this strange glass tube from a flea market for $5 years ago. Who knew it would find it's way to rest upon me and my husband's entertainment center? I thought the addition of some feathers would add a lil something. What do yall think?

Weight Loss Success!

On our 1st anniversary, a few months ago, I tried on my wedding dress(See it here). While it did zip up, it did not fit the same. Seems I had gained a bit of newlywed fluff. So mission Fluff Removal was a go. On Oct 30th me and Thomas got a Wii w/ balance board. I set a goal that first day to lose 8 lbs in 8 weeks to get back to my wedding day size of a year ago. I also bought the 2011 planner and Diet & Fitness Journal you see above to keep me motivated and organized with my goals.
So after daily Wii weigh ins and lots of Wii step I upped the anty in November and joined a new gym. On 11/15 Me and my friend Rindy measured ourselves w/ a tape measure and made goals of meeting at the gym Mon, Wed, and Fri. So far I've lost 6.7 lbs and gained some muscle tone. I'm currently 5'8 and 134lbs. But looky looky at the inches lost in 1 month!
I lost 1 in on my waist, 1 in on my hips, 1/2 from around my bellybutton, 1 in from my butt, 3/4 from my thighs and a whole cup size.Thats 4 1/4 inches lost not including Bust! Of course I'd lose my butt, boobs, and thighs first. Grrr. I have no butt, slender legs, and what girl wants to lose her boobies? Oh well everythings tightening up, I'm not gonna be picky(right now). So stay tuned for my update next month.

80's Party

Our 2nd Annual November dinner party since we've been married was 80's themed. We asked everyone to come dressed 80's. Any reference to the 80s was welcome. Some chose 80s fashion while some chose to emulate 80's singers, movie and cartoon characters, and even 80's video games and objects.

I decorated all the door frames with metallic fushia fringe and made banners with (in my mind) 80s patterns and alternated them with pictures of 80s things. Everyone had fun walking down memory lane pointing out pictures of cartoons they watched or a toy they had.

I also made themed drink labels. My plan was to make one for everybody but I didnt have time.

We gave gift cards (Itunes and the local movie theatre) to the costumes everybody voted were the best. The winners were Kael as Snowflake, the My Little Poney and Jake as Axl. Everybody had alot of fun with the costumes.

I didn't really get any shots of me except this one above center. I'll try to get some shots from other people so yallcan see my whole get up. I chose to come as Jem. I used to watch the cartoon and also had the doll. I made my dress and glittered some star earrings, bought a wig and did some bright glittery makeup. I felt very tacky chic, but hey that was the 80's!

My DIY Project

While Thomas was away on a quick business trip I came up with a makeover project. We got the table you see above free from friends and use it to set our DVD and Tivo Boxes. It's not something I would have picked out but for free it was quite a deal. So I decided to pick up some sandpaper and spray paint to help it mesh with our living room plans(like our new sofa).

East Austin Studio Art Tour Inspiration

On the 13th we met up with our friends Nick and Cali to roam about the East Austin Studio Art Tour. We dropped in on countless galleries and studios, had irish coffees at a pub, pizza slices at a fave new joint with a back yard firepit, and we even stopped in Domy books for a short story reading.It was way too packed to hear anyhing at all of their voices but they had free beer so the boys were happy to make the quick stop. One of the things I wanted to be sure to share with yall was the portrait work of the artist Barbara Lugge. She's amazing, no? I was totally inspired. I've always loved artistry using homecrafts in unconventional ways. I will be turning some of my sketches into threadwork soon. Can't wait to show you guys.

My Husband's Influence On Me...

Last Friday we (me and T and our friend Tiff) attended the Austin Comic Con. While I'll admit comics are not my thing and I was mainly attending to please my hubs I did enjoy myself more than I thought I would. I dressed as T's fave female comic, Supergirl. By that I mean I wore a shirt and cape- No crazy kinky public romps for me. Not everyone there felt the same let me tell ya. They had one ballsy chick who came as Poison Ivy, except her version was just a thong, some leaf pasties, body paint and some heels. She didn't last long before I guess she was asked to leave. I mean really, there's little kids all around and it's Friday in the am! On the up they had comic book artists all around sketching amazingly detailed artwork. I really enjoyed that part. They also had some stars from varied nerd TV and film projects. They had Chewbacca, Lando, and Darth Maul from Star Wars, the original Hulk, the Batman and Robin from the tv show- yep Adam West and Burt Ward of Bip Bop Wham fame, and tons more. They even had the Batmobile from the tv series that you could take a picture in for the low price of $20! Ha!

While I was posting on the Nerd and Geek of it all I thought I'd show yall a closeup of that Yoda I hand embroidered to wear for when we went to the Star Wars Symphony. My sister has been nagging me for it so here, I finally remembered Kelly!

T's Spy Mission

Last night me, Gidget, and Thomas were all snuggled up on the new couch watchin the latest Chuck, when I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. Or did I? I was still doubting myself when there it was again! Yep a little brown mouse skittered near the baseboards and hid under the nearby chair. Ahhh the joys of living on 2 acres with woods! T immediately jumped to rescue mode, then stopped abruptly. He used this unoppertune moment to remind me of the last time we had a mouse...

You see I love animals and I didn't want him to kill the mouse. That week on one of our walks we learned that one of our neighbors goats died. So T could tell from my face I would not take this additional death prospect lightly. So being the dear that he is he caught the mouse in tupperware. It was quite amusing to watch but I believe T enjoyed the chase (probly thinking he was a spy ala Chuck and this was his mission) . He warned me if we didn't kill him he would probly come back but I wouldn't have it. So we loaded up in our jammies and drove the mouse 1/2 mile and released him in some woods. Yep, we did that.

So back to the current situation. He didn't catch him this time. So since we have guests coming, some of which will be sleeping on the floor, I gave him the go ahead to do whatever he "needs to do" as long as I don't have to see or be a part of it.

Update- I've been informed mouse is gone. Perhaps T used a flute and the mouse danced out. Yeah I like that. That's what happened.

Our First Couch Purchase Together!

I'm so beyond excited. Me and Thomas got a new couch today from our local Pottery Barn Outlet. I absolutely refuse to post a picture of the old couch (a chocolate brown fake leather number-urgh!). But just look at that comfy grey velvet yumminess. I want to paint the walls a suntan flesh color, hang crisp white frames and take out the green and bring in some midnight blue, and some fun pillows. Yep after the 1st year I'm still newlywed nesting.

Me and Thomas have been reading Treasure Island
(one of my Penguin Classic Collection)together. I know, I know, taking turns reading to each other before bed sounds like the movies, but hey I gotta soak up all the newlywed I can.

The other day the weather was so nice we decided to bring a blanket out and lay in the sun and read. Gidget loved it. She ran around us in excited circles till she collapsed in contentment.
While reading one of the blogs I follow I came across the best yard improvement idea, Tee Pees! Me and T love bonfires and I could so see a big Tee Pee beside our fire pit in the backyard. I even found a Tutorial here, just need to make it a little bigger. Thomas says he'll think about it. I'm gonna try to get our friends in on the idea to make it a group project. What do ya think? Wicked Awesome, no?

Constant Cravings

This is a pic of my favorite teacup(as seen here and here). Inside is, well, delishousness! Have you ever gotten a craving stuck in your gut from some memory? Unfortunately I didn't have the recipe nor the name of the dish. But after some googling(I heart the internet)I came up with this Pistachio Ambrosia recipe. After some tweaking I got green yumminess that needs a name(got suggestions?), and looks pretty cute in a pink cup. The new and improved recipe is as follows:

Penney's Yet To Be Named Green Yumminess

1/2 bag minature marshmallows
1 can (20oz) crushed pineapple
1 can (11oz)mandarin oranges
2 packages (3.4oz)instant pistachio pudding
1 cup sour cream
1 carton (12oz) whipped topping
(Optional 1 cup shredded coconut and/or coconut milk)

Drain pineapple and oranges, reserving 1 1/2 cups juice (Or half juice, half coconut milk). Set fruit aside; pour juice into a 4-qt. bowl. Add pudding mix and mix until smooth. Stir in sour cream. Add whipped topping and mix until smooth. Fold in fruit and marshmallows; chill for several hours. Top with shredded coconut just before serving if desired.

Flea Market Find

This Saturday I ran a booth at the local flea market with friends. Ya know, all that extra junk just laying around that you don't use or want but don't wanna throw away because of the value you feel that it has. Like in my closet, the items I haven't worn in a year just sit there taking up space. Well the booth did pretty good. I made some cash and cleared some space(and yes I need to clear more). Honestly my highlight of the day was when I took a break and found a big canister of vintage wooden thread spools.
When I saw it I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. I bought a glass lamp from Target months ago that opens so you can fill it with whatever you wish. It's been sitting empty waiting for something special.

I was so excited to see them together. The colors look so great and looks perfect next to my pink vintage style phone (A sweet friend surprised me with it years ago).

So what do you think? It goes great with our "honeymoon" print that hangs in our bedroom.

Anniversary Clothbound Classics!

A friend pointed out my post about my new peguin books was MIA, so I'm reposting until I can find it. (I possibly could have updated the date incorrectly sending it to a time of who knows when. )

For our anniversary me and Thomas had already exchanged gifts but because we both picked our gifts(for me - dance lessons/for him-sports jerseys and comic book stuff), we decided to exchange something on our actual day that was a surprise. I got him a new wedding ring. He chose the first one, but unfortunately his work is ruff on his hands, and rings. So this time I got him a strong Tungsten Carbide ring that won't get scratched up. T surprised me with 4 penguin clothbound classics. That ups my collection to 10. They look so great sitting on top of my bookshelf!

Kitchen Inspiration

I've wishlisted a kitchen Island at Ikea (Need the storage and counter space) and love the idea of occasionly draping it with some of my vintage tablecloths. I also desparately want to paint my cabinets white. Sigh... So many ideas, so little bankroll.

PS.I've gotten feedback from some peeps requesting my playlist be taken off of automatic play so they can visit during work hours. And hey I'm all for more visitors checkin in so , "As You Wish." I'll try to work on updating my playlist this week.

T is out of town on a work trip till next week. So to appease myself I made my favorite breakfast, Softboiled eggs w/ toast soldiers and milky tea. As I ate I read thru my favorite blogs. If only every morning could start as such. Only exception needed is perhaps my hubby could be here to share with and refill the tea.

Ps. You may notice as many do that my Salt container has a P on it. Some think this means I've mistakenly filled the pepper shaker with salt. But the Vintage shaker has a P for Penney's Salt, so things are as they should be.

Oct 3rd - Our 1st Anniversary!

Thomas and me have had a wonderful first year of marriage. People always talk about how the first year is gonna be hard but in our case it's been a breeze. I love him so much and am truly a better person for being married to him. As we reminisced over all our wedding pictures I was appreciative again that we chose True Self Photography. She did such an amazing job. I thought I'd share some of our favorites.

This picture above is of me sitting on "My Swing". It's a swing located in a small park in Fairhope, AL that is found right off of Powell (My maiden name)Lane. I used to walk Gidget there sometimes and watch the sunset.
This tree that I'm sitting in is from my old neighborhood. No it's not in a public place or even in the yard of someone I knew. I used to point out this magnificent tree out to everyone saying I want to live in that house. So I had to have a picture of it. I knocked on the door and asked if it was ok to come take pictures there. They were so sweet and even cut the grass the day before the pictures. Big hugs to them!
Can you believe I was laying on this pier? My Maid of Honor sweetly tucked clean sheets under the dress to keep it pristine.

Gidget wearing a pearl embellished pink satin harness which I added a full tulle skirt. And her headpiece was my favorite part. I made it the day before. If you can't tell from the pictures it was a small hummingbird eating nectar from a pink flower. She was so cute running around the reception.
I still can't believe it's been a year. I love you Thomas! Thank you again to all the people who had a share in our day!

More House Guests Visiting Texas

Finally heres the pictures some have been asking for. My sister Kelly and friend Mindy came for a Texas visit recently. It was so good to see them but I wish they lived closer (Kelly is in GA, Mindy in AL). We got all "countryed up" to hear some live music in Austin, had cupcakes all over town, went to art museums, shopping,tubed the river, had game night with friends, and basically wore their butts out with stuff to do. Miss them already.
